In one of Europe’s most beautiful and significant Rococo theaters—where Mozart’s *Idomeneo* premiered, and where Napoleon attended a performance of *Don Giovanni* as a guest in 1806 to mark Bavaria’s elevation to a kingdom—you can enjoy concerts featuring the Residenz Soloists.

This evening, Vivien Walser will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major as soloist—one of the most poetic and heartfelt works in his body of work. Instead of a loud orchestral opening, the concerto begins with a quiet, almost intimate gesture: the piano alone begins with gentle, lyrical chords, as if the music were emerging from a quiet thought. Only then does the orchestra respond—a surprising shift in perspective that redefines the relationship between soloist and ensemble. At the premiere, Beethoven himself sat at the piano, even though his hearing had already begun to fail significantly; it was to be his final appearance as a soloist with an orchestra.

Light in music. Music in light. In rare moments, they intertwine—and in those moments, we realize what art is capable of: helping us feel life in all its fullness.

This collaboration brings together two artists from different worlds: Munich-based pianist Vivien Walser and South Korean light installation artist Ligyung, who has captivated audiences worldwide with her large-scale media installations. Together, they create an evening that blurs the boundaries between the senses.

Musically, the focus is on works by Robert Schumann, Alexander Scriabin, and Olivier Messiaen. For all of them, light played a significant role—not only as a metaphor, but in a very concrete sense. For Schumann, light was a symbol of emotional states—those fleeting moments of enlightenment in which love, hope, and poetry lift people beyond the mundane. Olivier Messiaen firmly linked musical sounds and keys to visual colors and patterns of light. Scriabin assigned colors to notes and dreamed of a total work of art combining music, light, scent, architecture, and movement; to this end, he devised the “color piano,” which generates colored projections in time with the music. 

Ligyung’s light installations take up these musical impulses—not as illustrations, but as works in their own right. They breathe with the music, come into being in the same moment, and exist in the now.

At the “ ELEKTRA TONQUARTIER ” at the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk, two artists and two worlds come together. Pianist Vivien Walser engages in a dialogue with the light installations by LIGYUNG—one of the world’s most acclaimed contemporary media installation artists. Together, they create an evening that blurs the boundaries between the senses.
